What a thrilling, action-packed week we had with our Mission Impossible theme of adventures. The campers had to outwit and out play the challenges to unlock the secrets to surviving in the wilderness.
The campers were off and running with orienteering practice. Orienteering is a high energy, competitive sport that combines racing with navigation. It is a timed race where individual participants use a specially created map to select routes and navigate through the wilderness.
In the Cooperative Games, campers participated in the Obstacle Course. Campers raced each other to see who was the fastest at completing the course.
During the Cooperative Games, campers played Impossible Knot, Golf Challenges, and Capture the Flag. All the games helped the campers grow stronger in their communication skills and decision-making abilities.
During our Young Naturalist program, different groups used surrounding objects in nature...as well as provided objects...to create either a splint, a shelter, or a bed.
In preparation for adventures, our campers learned how to properly use a compass and what its role is in exploration.
During Cooperative Games, campers participated in a mini putt putt course and putting contest.
Our young golfers learned how to control the speed of the ball and how to putt properly on the golf green.
We brought out the giant water slide, and the campers had a blast getting wet and cruising down the hill.
During the Art Program, campers created optical illusion art by shading in abstract shapes to make a 3D effect.
Campers made the impossible possible by giving animals camouflage that don't naturally blend in with their environments.
In our Coaching Character class, the campers learned how to keep the big picture in focus, be mission-minded, and step up to take the initiative.
On the Instructional Sports side of the camp, our athletes were fully immersed in the sport of Orienteering.
Campers learned the basics of enhanced, topographic maps, how to read and understand an orienteering course that consists of navigating using a base plate compass, how to interpret map symbols, colors, land features, trails, and how to orient an orienteering map.
Our campers learned a great deal this week about facing adventures and completing the mission at hand. Congratulations to all the campers in working with their teams and relying on their learned skills for accomplishing their objectives!
